Το κλασικό αριστούργημα «Χωρίς οικογένεια» του Έκτορα Μαλό, μέσα από τη διαχρονική ιστορία του μικρού μας ήρωα Ρεμί, αποτελεί ωδή στην αξία της οικογένειας, της φιλίας και της πολύπαθης ζωής. Ο μικρός Ρεμί, σε ηλικία μόλις οκτώ ετών, διωγμένος από τον άντρα της θετής του μητέρας, βρίσκεται να περιπλανιέται από πόλη σε πόλη και από χωριό σε χωριό μαζί με έναν πλανόδιο θεατρίνο και τον θίασό του δίνοντας υπαίθριες παραστάσεις. Η καθηλωτική περιπλάνησή τους, που ξετυλίγεται μέσα από τις περιπέτειες και τις κακουχίες που αντιμετωπίζουν στο διάβα τους, ταξιδεύει τον αναγνώστη στη Γαλλία του 1850 και συνάμα αναδεικνύει κοινωνικά προβλήματα της εποχής. Άραγε, ο μικρός Ρεμί θα καταφέρει να βρει μια οικογένεια που τόσο λαχταρά; Για τον συγγραφέα: Ο Έκτωρ Μαλό (1830-1907), σπουδαίος Γάλλος λογοτέχνης, γεννήθηκε στο Λα Μπούιγ της Γαλλίας. Σπούδασε νομικά στο Παρίσι, αλλά τα εγκατέλειψε για να ασχοληθεί με τη συγγραφή. Υπήρξε ένας από τους πιο παραγωγικούς συγγραφείς στην ιστορία της σύγχρονης λογοτεχνίας. Έγραψε εξήντα οκτώ βιβλία. Κυριότερα έργα του είναι τα δύο μυθιστορήματα «Χωρίς οικογένεια», που βραβεύτηκε από τη Γαλλική Ακαδημία, και «Με οικογένεια», μεταφρασμένα και τα δύο σε πολλές γλώσσες και πολυδιαβασμένα από μικρούς και μεγάλους αναγνώστες, που τους συνεπήρε η ευαισθησία του Μαλό και η ικανότητά να δημιουργεί ζωντανούς χαρακτήρες.

Νεολογισμός που αποτελείται από τις λέξεις hors (= έξω) και là (= εδώ), δημιουργώντας την ίδια σύνθετη λέξη-συνώνυμο του Διαβόλου που συναντάμε και στα ελληνικά (Εξαποδώ) και σημαίνει «αυτός που έρχεται από κάπου εκτός του εδώ κόσμου». Τρεις ιστορίες που μας βυθίζουν απευθείας στη δημιουργική ατμόσφαιρα του Γκι ντε Μοπασάν, ενός από τους επιφανέστερους Γάλλους συγγραφείς και διαχρονικά αξεπέραστου μετρ της μικρής φόρμας. Έντονα αυτοβιογραφικό, το διήγημα Ο Εξαποδώ, μαζί με την Κόμη και το Όραμα που το συμπληρώνουν, αποτυπώνει ένα μοτίβο που χαρακτήρισε και τον ίδιο τον συγγραφέα όσο ζούσε: τρέλα, αλλοιωμένη κατάσταση συνείδησης και τρόμος μπροστά σ’ εκείνες τις ανεξήγητες επιδράσεις που αφήνουν ανεξίτηλα τα σημάδια τους στο σώμα. Οι πίνακες του Μάουρο Κασιόλι που εικονογραφούν αυτή την έκδοση υπερβαίνουν κάθε σωματικό ή ψυχικό πλαίσιο, συστήνοντάς μας ένα εκθαμβωτικό ανεξιχνίαστο σύμπαν που αποκαλύπτει τη στενότητα της λογικής ματιάς.

Το 1977, απέσπασαν το βραβείο César για το καλύτερο animation μικρού μήκους με την ταινία «Fracture». «Η Κόλαση» αποτελεί μια έξοχη απόδοση του σπουδαίου αυτού κλασικού έργου σε graphic novel, ώστε να γίνεται προσιτό σε νεότερους αναγνώστες και ταυτοχρόνως να μένει πιστό στο πνεύμα του κλασικού κειμένου.
